Welcome to GTCASA

Welcome to GTCASA, the Gifted & Talented Children's Association of South Australia. As a dedicated volunteer organisation, we play a pivotal role in the lives of gifted and talented youth and their families. Our efforts are focused on organising parent events, running our Saturday Club, and fostering connections within the community.

Our aim is to provide resources and support systems specifically designed for the unique journey of raising and nurturing gifted children. By facilitating educational opportunities, social gatherings, and community links, we strive to ensure that every gifted child has the chance to thrive. Together, we work towards creating a supportive environment that celebrates their talents and addresses their challenges, making a significant impact on their development and future.

But what is Gifted?

GTCASA favours the Columbus Group definition:

“Giftedness is asynchronous development in which advanced cognitive abilities and heightened intensity combine to create inner experiences and awareness that are qualitatively different from the norm.

This asynchrony increases with higher intellectual capacity.

The uniqueness of the gifted renders them particularly vulnerable and requires modifications in parenting, teaching, and counseling in order for them to develop optimally.”

Gifted children demonstrate a remarkable capacity for learning, problem-solving, and creativity that sets them apart from their peers. This provides unique challenges in education and parenting.

At GTCASA, we understand that giftedness encompasses far more than just academic achievement. It's about nurturing the whole child, recognizing their strengths, and providing opportunities for growth and development in a supportive environment.

At GTCASA we wish to empower gifted children to reach their full potential, to support their families in navigating the joys and challenges of raising a gifted child, and to advocate for greater understanding and recognition of giftedness in our community.

Join us at GTCASA, where we celebrate the brilliance, creativity, and potential of young gifted minds, and where every child has the opportunity to shine brightly and thrive.

Upcoming Events

We regularly hold social and education get togethers that give us the space and ability to connect with like minded individuals. Feel free to join us at one of our safe and inclusive events.

GTCASA Term 3 program

The Term 3 program has been released and there are some changes to the usual format. Instead of running the Junior/Senior groups, we are trialing offering two streams and letting parents decide what level of support their child needs.

If you want to go in to the classroom to help support them or leave the kids to run with it on their own, we will leave you to decide what level to pitch in at.

We are also encouraging you to have a think if one of these classes isn't what your child is in to, is it something that will help extend them in a different way? Even if you don't consider your child as a naturally crafty person, they can still stretch their problem solving with We Make by problem solving how to deal with waste.

If you don't consider your child to be a particularly gaming-focused kid, keep in mind the sessions by Catalyst games will be stretching story telling and world creation.

You can attend one session or all four from either stream and while attending all four will give a deeper level of understanding, even if you can only make one, your child will still be able to take part.
